Automated fairways and roughs at Santaluz

“I’ve done some of the math: we are saving around 2,000 hours a year. That can be as much as $50,000 in total savings.” - Jeff Miller

Tucked away in northern San Diego lies the Santaluz Golf Club, with its breathtaking Rees Jones-designed course. Here in October 2024, 31 superintendents gathered to watch the Kress RTKn mower radically transform hole 1 completely unmanned.

“The biggest benefit for our course,” says Jeff Miller, director of agronomy at Santaluz, “is that our members can’t get over how beautiful and consistent the rough and fairway are.” Miller’s team has quickly adapted to customizing the Kress robots to meet Santaluz’s specific needs. “The best part is how flexible they are. We can schedule the mowers to run overnight, which is a game-changer,” Miller shared. Santaluz is now fully automated, with every hole except the greens managed by robots. This shift to Kress robotics represents a new standard in maintenance.

Nearly half of the superintendents in attendance had tried other robotic mowers before, acknowledging limitations with their outdated technology. “Kress really stands out,” one superintendent observed, “especially with the access to satellite signal without the need for a local antenna nor subscription fees.”

Most superintendents already scheduled a follow up consultation with a dealer to explore Kress golf solutions.
